®¦·O

Leader's Notes: Purpose: To consider how we can show the fruit of kindness to others. Kindness means treating others as God has treated us¡Xwith compassion and generosity. Leaders need to read the passage in context, ie, read through the enmity between David and Saul, and the friendship between Jonathan and David in the previous chapters. These introductory stories are required for non-Christians or people who are not familiar with the OT.

NOTE: Questions in ¡¥*¡¦ are for Christians only.

Leader's Notes: David had every reason to hold a grudge against the house of Saul. Also, he could have been put off by the extra burden of a cripple, the possibly lowered image of a royal household which accepts a cripple as a son, or by the fact that Mephibosheth might not have been very attractive to king David.

Leader's Notes: Help your group to see that David's kindness was an act of the will toward Mephibosheth based on the tremendous relationship of love which he had experienced with Jonathan.

Leader's Notes: David's desire and motivation were genuine. He went all out for Mephibosheth by returning to him all of Saul's land, by letting him eat at his own table, and by giving him Ziba and his vast retinue to serve him. David made him just like one of the king's sons!
